Special Music - The summer months bring opportunities for solo or ensemble artists. Old Stone is blessed with many talented people, and we are always eager to have them share their talents with us, which can range from a 15 second piano solo by a four-year-old to a full service of music presented by groups such as the Olentangy Men's Chorus. Play an instrument? We would love to have you accompany one of the choirs or a hymn or present a solo piece.

WORSHIP

Worship at Old Stone Presbyterian Church follows the worship patterns of the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition. It is conducted with a sense of warmth and openness. During the school year, lay persons serve with the pastor in leading worship. Bible readings and preaching based on the Bible form the core of Sunday worship. All baptized Christians are invited to participate in the Sacrament of The Lord's Supper. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated as needed throughout the year and is open to all children of families in which one parent is an active professing Christian. Special services throughout the year include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter Sunrise. Worship at Old Stone Church is at 10:30 a.m. Childcare for infants and toddlers is provided during the services. Youth Fellowship Time is provided for children who are age 3 through third grade during the summer months. Please check our CALENDAR page for special services and programs.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Christian education is a high priority at the Old Stone Church. It is prayerfully and financially supported generously by the congregation and the Session of the church. The Christian Education Committee meets monthly to review, plan, and to organize curriculum, special projects, and activities for the youth and older members of the congregation.

The heart of the Christian gospel is the proclamation that while humanity continues to be sinful, God's grace has been shown and been given both as forgiveness and power in Jesus Christ.

The objective of Christian Education is to bring the Word of God to individuals, so that as growing persons they may be helped to know God in Jesus Christ, understand His truth in light of their own experience, and commit themselves to Him through faith in Christ.

The aim of Christian Education is to nurture all persons within the fellowship of the church, so that they will be enabled to perceive and accept God's forgiveness and power for new life as revealed in Jesus Christ, and so grow in wisdom and in power, living as faithful children of God and intelligent, committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

The task of Christian Education is to teach the Bible, God's inspired Word; present Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; relate the Bible to students' lives; train and inspire teachers and leaders; build and strengthen the church.

Youth Sunday School classes are held during the Morning Worship hour (10:30-11:30) with the children leaving for their classes following the Children's Message. Classes are organized according to age groupings.

The Adult Sunday School class meets at 9:00 a.m. preceding Morning Worship. The Pastor usually leads the adult class.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is a regular feature of the Christian Education program at Old Stone. Usually held in June during the morning hours, it continues to be a strong outreach program to community families as well as for congregational families.

YOUTH GROUP activities are planned for middle school and high school age groups. Each year fundraisers are planned so that in the summer these groups can attend a week-long Workcamp somewhere in the U.S. Check our church CALENDAR for special educational opportunities throughout the year.

FELLOWSHIP

Old Stone Church is "God's Spirited family of Christ." Fellowship programs throughout the year are an important part of our family life. One of the highlights of our fellowship program is the Annual Ox Roast, which includes a carnival and a craft and bake sale. It has been part of our life together for over 40 years and brings hundreds of people from our community to our church. A basketball team and a coed softball team play in local church leagues. Soup luncheons after worship are opportunities for all members and friends of the congregation to grow in their relationships. Special times of sharing and fellowship include a Valentine's Day dinner, Mother-Child Luncheon, Father-Child Breakfast, Family Camping at Geneva Hills Camp, Annual Church Picnic, and Family Game Nights.

MISSIONS

The Church of Jesus Christ is commissioned by God to be active both locally and globally in self-giving service. The Elders of the Session interpret the total mission of the Church and encourage the congregation to support their decisions both financially and by participation. Faithful to its responsibilities, the Session's Missions Committee does the following:

  • Establishes and explains the Session's mission goals and programs to the congregation.
  • Encourages financial support of designated missionaries and mission projects both nationally and internationally (e.g., John and Diane Fowler in Izmir/Smyrna, Turkey; Alice Winter in Colombia).
  • Organizes and implements an annual "Missions Emphasis Sunday" in the fall.
  • Selects local service projects to support (e.g., Andrews House, Adopt-an-Acre program, People in Need) and informs the congregation of opportunities for personal service.
  • Selects other non-local projects to support (e.g., Operation Christmas Child, Prison Fellowship)
