Who
can become a member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church?
Membership in
Old Stone Presbyterian Church is open to all who profess their faith in
Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Can
I join Old Stone Presbyterian Church if I belong to another church?
Adults who have
previously made a public profession of faith may join Old Stone Presbyterian
church by a letter of transfer from a church in which they are active
members or by reaffirmation of faith if the church is unable to receive
a letter of transfer in their behalf.
What
if I have never been a member of another church?
Persons who
have not previously made a public profession of faith may join the church
by confirmation of their baptismal vows if they have previously been baptized
or by baptism and profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Does
Old Stone Church ever have membership classes?
Periodically through the year
membership classes are held to help people reflect on their faith and to learn about the life and
mission of the church. Each year there is a confirmation program for young people in preparation
of their public profession of faith in Jesus Christ.

How do I know if my infant is eligible for baptism?
Baptism is open to all
infants of parents who are professing Christians and members of a Christian church.
Do
I have to be a member of a church to have my infant baptized at Old Stone
Church?
Because of the baptism of
infants requires the promise of a congregation to participate in the Christian nurture of a child,
baptism is normally for the children of those who are active church members. The baptism of infants
is with the approval of the pastor and the Session/Board of Elders.
When
are baptisms conducted?
Baptism is conducted
during a regular service of the congregation.
How
do I arrange to have my child baptized?
Parents desiring to
have their children baptized should contact the pastor.

Is it possible to "rent out" the church facilities for a wedding conducted by an outside minister?
No.
Who is eligible to have a wedding celebration at Old Stone Church?
Members of the church.
What is
required of the couple?
Four to six meetings are normally arranged with the pastor.
What is the
pastor required (by the "Book of Order") to discuss with the couple?
- The nature of their Christian commitment, assuring that at least one is a professing Christian;
- The legal requirements of the State of Ohio;
- The privilege and responsibilities of "Christian" marriage;
- The nature and form of the marriage service (NOTE: music suitable for the marriage service directs attention to God and expresses the faith of the church; all "secular" music shall be placed before or after (i.e., outside) the marriage service);
- The vows and commitments they will be asked to make;
- The relationship of these commitments to their lives of Christian discipleship;
- The resources of the faith and the Christian community to assist them in fulfilling their marriage commitments.

Yes. Permission must be obtained from the Old Stone pastor, and it is expected that he/she shall be involved in the service.
What about the recognition of a "civil marriage"?
A service recognizing a civil marriage and confirming it in the community of faith may be appropriate when requested by a couple. Permission must be obtained from the Old Stone Church pastor and arrangements made with him/her.
